How to Remove Simple Stains

How to remove simple stains

No one wants to deal with carpet stains. Don’t you just hate how they seem to stand out to guests and catch your eye every time you walk past?

The carpet cleaning professionals at Champion in Peachtree City have a few tips that can help you prevent and remove simple stains from your carpets.

1. Blot, Don’t Scrub

When a spill does happen take a clean, absorbent cloth and blot the area where the liquid has spilt. Do not scrub or rub! Scrubbing and rubbing can cause permanent damage to your carpet fibers. The scrubbing motion could also cause the liquid to stain a larger area. Us a blotting motion instead. Blotting puts a small amount of pressure on the stain to soak it up. Keep blotting the liquid until the cloth doesn’t pick up any more liquid.

2. Use a Simple Solution

For stains from Kool-Aid or similar liquids after blotting up the liquid you can create your own cleaning solution to remove most of the stain. Mix ¼ cup of white vinegar, 1 teaspoon of Dawn dish soap, and fill the rest of a spray bottle with water. Spray the area and let it soak for 5-10 minutes and then continue to blot the liquid with a clean, dry cloth until the stain has been removed.

Note: Be careful when using homemade solutions. Test a small area of your carpet before applying to the stain. The last thing you want to do is discolor your carpets fibers or cause irreparable damage.

3. Removing Pet Stains

Cleaning up pets stains can be a challenge, but it is not impossible. Pick up any loose material with gloves and properly dispose of it. If the area is wet, use the blotting method to soak up the liquid. If the carpet has already dried, moisten the area with a homemade solution or with water and start blotting. If this does not resolve the stain you may want to seek professional help. It is important to note that pet stains also come with odors that may require professional attention.

4. Go Shoeless

A good way to keep your carpets from staining is to try to prevent outside dirt and soil from being tracked into your home. Do you have family members or visitors take their shoes off when they enter your home? A large percentage of dirt and soil found on your carpet comes from dirty shoes.
